Hunting and Fishing

The Lone Tree Wildlife Management Area  Just 13 miles southwest of Harvey, hunters will find their paradise.  This hunting mecca consists of 33,000 acres of gently rolling hills bordering the Sheyenne River. It is open to the public and both consumptive and non-consumptive use are not only allowed, but encouraged! Many public use facilities have already been developed to encourage public use, including primitive campgrounds with drinking water, picnic tables, and vault toilets.

If you prefer hunting waterfowl, the Central Waterfowl Flyway runs through North Central North Dakota and offers some of the finest goose and duck hunting in the country.

The fishing in Harvey is excellent during the summer and the winter. Northern pike, walleye, and large mouth bass are found in the waters of the Sheyenne River at the south edge of town. The Sheyenne Recreation Area is open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Equipped with two new boat docks, handicapped accessible fishing pier, picnic tables, toilets, fireplaces, beach, and swimming and boating facilities, it serves residents as well as visitors. The local Sheyenne River Development Committee works year round making improvements on the Sheyenne River at the Harvey Dam.
